Layer IQ turns the asset lists you already have into a working system of record.
Your first import takes just a few minutes — here's how it works.
What you can upload
Any spreadsheet of IT assets: CSV or Excel exports from your ERP, a customer's
pickup list, or a hand-built inventory. Files don't need to be clean. The import
wizard is built for real-world lists — mixed manufacturers, duplicate rows,
missing serial numbers, and columns with unusual names are all handled.
How to import
1. From your dashboard, choose **Import assets** (or open the Assets area and
select Import).
2. Drop in your file. The wizard reads your columns and proposes a mapping —
review it and adjust anything it got wrong. Unusual headers (like "SN" for
serial number) are recognized automatically in most cases.
3. Review duplicates. If your file contains repeated rows, the wizard surfaces
them and lets you decide what happens to each.
4. Confirm the import. You'll see live progress as your assets land.
What happens next
Every import becomes a **cohort** — a trackable batch with its own ID (you'll
see it in the Cohort column, formatted like IMP-1234, alongside the original
filename). Cohorts make it easy to find, filter, and export exactly the assets
that arrived together.
Your imported assets appear in the asset table with the details from your file:
identifier, description, serial, location, quantity, and when they were added.
From there you can search, filter, export, and — when you're ready — enrich
them with market intelligence.
Tips
Import is free on every foundation account. Bring in as many lists as you like.
You don't need to fix your spreadsheet first. Import it as-is and let the wizard do the work.
